Father of Yoga – Vayu Patanjali

The practice of yoga is basically a spiritual, mental and physical discipline which has benefited and helped people around the globe to keep a perfect condition of mental and physical well-being. It was written about 15 thousand year ago that Lord Shiva was the original father of yoga. It was then penned about 15 thousand years ago that Shiva came to the point of full enlightenment. People took benefit from the powers of the lord by practicing various yogic asana and pranayama.

The father of yoga, Lord Shiva, is widely considered to be the founder of this particular form of discipline that is often referred to as Hatha Yoga. Many people often refer to this term as “yoga sutras” or father of yoga sutras. The origin of this particular word actually got rooted from a Sanskrit term which is “yug” for “awe”. Therefore, when Lord Shiva, in the form of the god Vishnu, promised to give his daughter away to Shiva, he used the word “yug” with respect. That is why the term “father of yoga” was derived from that particular incident and has since come to mean and have connotations related to the spiritual aspect of life.

Yoga was spread all over the country and it was mostly practiced by the people living near the rivers or nearby the forests. It was practiced during the pre-classical times in India. The term “father of yoga” was used by the followers of the word to describe him since this was the first time that yoga had been started in the presence of people. Since the word had already been used many times by the followers of lord Krishna, the association of the father of yoga with yoga was quite natural.

According to the mythology, the father of yoga took yoga sutras from an ark and taught them to his close disciples. When these men realized the goodness of these sutras, they spread these teachings to their friends and family. Thus, the modern father of yoga emerged from this incident. However, there are some issues associated with this concept of yoga sutras and the father of yoga. For instance, the term “father of yoga” should not be misused to justify the activities of the founder of yoga.

According to the myth, the father of yoga went to his resting place under a tree after performing the Yantra. There he breathed inside the tree and then turned into a swan and flew away to spread the knowledge of yoga. This legend is often referred to as the father of modern yoga. However, this is far from the truth and the term has nothing to do with the asanas that are practiced by this school of thought.

The word “father” is often referred to when referring to a spiritual teacher, but the father of yoga is actually Vayu Patanjali who is recognized as the founder of this school of thought. He is also recognized as the founder of the philosophy of yoga. As a result, it is debatable whether or not he is considered to be the father of yoga in as much as the term refers to a teacher. Some might say that he is the father of yoga as well as the author of the Patanjali sutras.

While this may seem a semantic issue, modern yoga cannot be defined as an offshoot of any one school. Rather, all schools of yoga emerged from the basic teachings of Patanjali. This is in keeping with the original purpose of yoga which is to reunite the soul, body and mind in order to attain a higher level of spiritual consciousness. Therefore, the term “father of yoga” can be used in conjunction with the founder of the modern yoga school. However, it would be unfair to assume that the Patanjali sutras were the source of all modern yoga as there have been considerable variations in yoga styles over time.

There are many yoga sutras that deal with aspects other than asanas which are part of the modern understanding of yoga. A good example is the Nirgundi Padottanasana which deals with mental as well as physical well being. Since it was first translated by B.K.S. Ravi Verma in 1969, it has become widely accepted as a reference text on all levels and is a must for anyone interested in learning more about the history of yoga sutras.
